Julie and Michelle, this is what I was doing out in the pasture when you and your sneaky spy car came down my road.

Peak-a-boo! I see you!

You may have binoculars, but I have a long zoom lens!

Here is my view this morning as I made my way back home after dropping the kids off at the end of our dirt road to catch the school bus. I'm standing on top of my 4-wheeler, hence the angle. The sky was so blue, I had to stop and take a picture. See, the cows are running to me? They are the only ones left who let me take their picture!

I remember when I was taking these photos, I was thinking to myself, "hold still, hold still, or it's going to be blurry!". Obviously as you can see, I got a bit excited when he touched the bag and did not hold still.

Now that the summer rains have gone, the ponds are low and the swampy area in the trees has dried up, so too have all the wading birds disappeared. I don't miss the oppressive heat and humidity, but I do miss seeing flocks of ibis hunting for food, cranes, beautiful herons and egrets.

This is my submission for i ♥ faces, Category: Autumn Beauty

I live where it is a shade of green all year 'round. Spring is new green, summer is bright, deep green, autumn is greeny-brown, and winter is delightful! I don't have much of the typical autumn colors, but I have noticed the setting sun has a warmer hue to it now then it did in July.

I took this photo yesterday evening as the last bits of light was fading from our backyard. She is a beauty to me, and there is some autumn light in the background. Hope this counts.

There were probably a hundred of these little birds in the pasture, all walking around eating something off/from the ground. Insects? Seeds? I don't know my birds, so I don't know what they are. They were however very skittish. For this shot I was quite far away, had my lens zoomed all the way out to 300 mm and then I really cropped the photo afterward.

Hmmm, it's Friday the Thirteenth and my computer gets a virus. Not nice!

But here is a pretty horse in the late afternoon light. That will make me feel better.

Sing with me now ...

This is the way we herd the cows, herd the cows, herd the cows
This is the way we herd the cows

So early in the morning.

This is the way we give Mom a heart attack, Mom a heart attack, Mom a heart attack
This is the way we give Mom a heart attack

So early in the morning.

What you can't see is the boy beating his chest with his fists and hollering at the top of his lungs. Good thing these are very timid cows that would never turn on him.

This is what we do in the morning. What do you do?

(Pics are SOOC. Love that morning light, almost as much as evening light.)

His eyes look rather gray here. Actually they are bright blue. I guess it was that early evening light playing tricks with it's color.

What did you do with your Jack-o-Lanterns? Did you spend the morning in your PJ's watching the cows fight over the remains? We did. That's our version of excitement here on the ranch!

November 4, 2009

The heat and humidity have finally dropped. It feels great outside. While my oldest had her tennis lesson, the rest of us played outside in the grassy field next to the courts. This guy would play catch with me all day if I let him. However, our agreement was 30 minutes of me throwing the baseball for him in exchange for a few very quick pictures and then 15 minutes of reading out loud to me.

I know his eyes are too dark on these shots, however the sun was so low in the sky that it was blinding him. My attempt to get light in his eyes didn't work, but there is plenty of light on his face. I guess I could have used some white paper as a reflector and bounced some light to his eyes. That wouldn't hurt like looking toward the setting sun did.

Wow, my photo was one of Angie's and Amy's pick over at i ♥ faces!
Cool.
And I was mentioned on their face book wall.

This is my entry for i ♥ faces, category: Balloons

She was sorting through all the small balloons that we fill up and use for water balloons, when she tossed them up in the air. Better she throw them in the air without water in them, then throw them at me, filled with water.

Go check out the other photos at i ♥ faces.
