A few days ago I received a lovely comment complementing my photography. It completely made me day (and subsequent week) because other than a couple photography friends and my Mom and sister, I didn't think anyone really looked at this blog.
One way that I have learned and improved with photography is by reading blogs of others who are more talented, creative, knowledgeable and skilled than me. I read lots of forums and ask plenty of questions.
Here is something I learned and have been practicing. I recently bought a "nifty fifty", that would be a 50 mm 1.8 lens.
Check out this shot:
My husband; apparently the fourth of July tattoos brought out his "inner thug".

I focused on his hand with my aperture open as wide as it would go (f/1.8), allowing me to blur him out and focus in on his knuckles and the flag. I think it looks kind of cool.

I do like the way that turned out. Your description of your husband as a thug cracked me up though! :)
Very cool! I SO want one of those lenses! Hopefully soon!
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!! I love it love it love it. I've been trying to decide between a wide angle lens or a 50mm. Are the 50mm lenses strictly for portrait photography? I need to get a lens I can photograph large groups with. This picture is incredible. I might have to copy the idea! Wow!
That is cool! Awesome lens.
